Impellar about every 2-3 seasons or more often if the environment you are running has a high solids content such as sandy or muddy water.

Easy job the second time you do it -- you will know by then but just about anyone who can turn a wrench and feels comfortable can do it.

Bob

Hi Kerm
As a rule? Usualy they suggest once a year. Some say once every two years. Some say more often depending on conditions, muddy, silty water etc. I say at least inspect once a year. And if I go to the trouble of inspection, I might as well replace the empeller, at least. It's cheep insurance. The job is usualy not a big deal. I would suggest aquiring a manual first. This always makes things easier and less costly. I think most of the folks on this board do some if not most of their own work.

I change mine every year. Even with the neopreene (Spelling?) impeller.

Just my opinion though.

Craig

All good advice above. I change mine out (whether they need it or not) every other fall. If the engine sits idle all year (like my baby bass rig did last year), I change it before using it..The reason for this is, the rubber impeller forms a shape to the concentric housing, and it doesn't work right...Even if it had only 5 hours on it.
I do an inordinate amount of idling, and shallow water running, both of which are hard on these things.
And someone wiser than I on here, once made the comment," The impeller usually looks perfectly fine...Until it flies-apart". This is very true.

About every 250 to 300 hours running in clean saltwater and freshwater. I always flush with fresh water after every SW use. If you don't, expect to change impellers more often and find a lot of stuff looking like wet sand around the pump housing (it's not wet sand, but salt build up). If you low speed troll alot, expect to change impellers somewhat more often, b/c that's when pump is acting like a positive displacement pump. (At higher RPM's the fingers on the impeller remain bent and don't contact the housing or only touch with light pressure like a centrifugal pump).
