Re: Arrghhh Garage Size...

I didn't think I could get my boat, riding mower, snow blower, all my tools, kayak, two bicycles, two sets of summer tires (Moms and Sisters), six outboard motors, a huge Bishops chair that is about a million years old and too big to get into the house, AND the wifes Jeep, but I did it. She can even open the drivers door and get out. Things are very tight, but manageable. It is an average sized two car garage, although two cars would be tight. Its more of a very comfortable 1 car garage. I think its about 24x20-ish.

In the 18 years at my house with a 2 car garage I've never had my cars in the garage. Ok, once I had the front end of the Honda civic inside to change the timing belt.

Re: Arrghhh Garage Size...

My 16'8" boat is over 21' long from hitch to prop.
It needs a space 11' wide and 19' long, with the boat parked on an angle.

Luckily my garage is 28' deep. :)

Having a new removable or hinged tongue is a very do-able option.
Contact Tom's Trailers in Menomonee Falls.

My neighbor built an exrtention on the back of his garage, looked like a 9' wide rabbit hutch on the back of the garage.
It was the only way he could fit his land yachts in his garage.
Modification was cheap, just needed to be built correctly.
His taxes didn't go up either, as the garage remained the same size.
He built sort of a bay window on the garage to stick the front end of his Lincoln Mark V and Lincoln Mark VII into.

Where there's a will, there's a way.

I went to Tom;s Trailers last year when I rebuilt the trailer under my trihull. They are a little on the expensive side, but they have a lot of accesories there.

Re: Arrghhh Garage Size...

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. I'm really liking the idea of getting the trailer converted into one that can have a removable or hinged tongue. Maybe what I'll do for right now is just stick the wifes car outside whilest I tinker and save to get the trailer mod.

I'm definitely not hacking a hole in my garage. Not brave enough for that one :D

My Garage is 21'x 21' - a perfect square. The boat is a total of 24.75' long with trailer and outdrive in place. If I could store the boat with the outdrive down... I would probably be able to fit it in without issue. Is this a possibility? The outdrive currently has plastic support braces on the hydraulic pistons which lift and lower the outdrive.

And for all of you who suggested that I build a bigger garage... Seriously, do you want my wife to kill me?!?! :D

Sean

EE- What about those boat shelters that you an get from Menards and Fleet Farm........They arent that expensive, and then you can still put 2 vehicles in the garage.

EE,

Yes, you can, and most say should, store the boat with the drive down. This will save a few inches too. . .

BTW, congratulations!!

EE- I know a place where you can store it for free, the only stipulation being the owner of the place you store it gets to use it :D  :D

Re: Arrghhh Garage Size...

Quick little note here.

I tried to talk my fishing partner into doing what DJ did with the removable tongue. But thought it would be to much work

IE: If a swing tongue will allow you to walk AROUND the front of the trailer fine.

He measured his boat and trailer and figured he would have 2 ft between the front of the trailer and the garage door with a swing tongue!

Wound up with six inches
Everytime him or his wife wanted something out of the freezer or dry food storage they had to step over the swing tongue!

After 4 months the boat went outside where it has stayed for the last 12 years. :(

Re: Arrghhh Garage Size...

If you have room build the carport to put it under. My stepmoyher has had the boat in her garage for 10 years. Didnt make sense to me to have a 4000 dollar boat in the garage and a 35000 dollar pickup setting out in the weather.

This is how I cured the problem. The storage shed in the rear is fishing and boating supply storage. Im not through Im going to bring a single sheet of sheet metal down on each side to keep debree from blowing in. Im not limited for space however.
