Well today I have done my two good deads for the weekend, lets hope. On the way back from a morning of fishing without a nibble one. After what I am still hoping is a lose wire almost causing me to be stranded with my son in the boat. We get back to the ramp to find the same people still fishing on it that were there when we launched. On top of that tthere was a pontoon boat just drifting in front of both the ramp and the dock, as we were coming up to this all my son "10" mentioned how this all seemed so very wrong of them. Hats off to him for figuring out some of the nice sides of what to do on the boat this early. However as we were both commenting on it the pontoon moved out of the way but continued casting the bait net right in our path without a care one. Then as I manage to miss the net and get close to the dock the friend of the pontoon owner asked, Hey bud would you mind towing my buddy in there in that boat, we dont have a rope long enough to get to the dock to pull him in here. Sure I say thinking another nice lesson on helping someone in need for the boy, not to mention the karma points being that I almost had to hope for a tow in. The guy even offers to pay which I had planned on refusing since it was so freaking close not more then 20 ft from where we were. So I go up next to the pontoon and toss him the 100 ft rope from my boat, what does the genious do? Trys to hold the rope in his one hand while steering with the other. I asked him to tie it off to the front but no , so the second I put tension on it yep he drops it. Strats to get mad that I pulled it out of his hand. Ok so we get this back to the ramp with a little problems, his buddy has the trailer backed into the water already waiting good plan I thought until he drives off the side of the ramp and gets stuck. This whole time my son is watching and keeps asking if they are doing this on purpose or if they are just clueless. I get the guy heading towards the ramp and he throws my rope at the back of my still running motor. Luckly my son sees the rope and starts pulling it in before I did. Ok so all that has happened I have enough time to get my trailer backed in and and load my boat which by the way was the easiest load I have ever had. Take my shoes off and go help the guys line up the toon onto the trailer and out of the water. Which took some extra effort since he was off the ramp on one side completly. Afterwards I pull my boat and trailer out and turn to help them the rest of whatever needed, only to see them just driving off down the road. No thanks no here is the money we promised no nothing. Again I had no desire to take the money, however even my son brought this up before I could say anything. "Dad you did all that to help those guys and they were suppose to pay you, they didnt even say a thank you at all." He even noticeed they didnt secure the boat to the trailer at all or in anyway. So I tell him sometimes people are just people and they gget in a hurry but he is right dont make a offer if you have absolutely no intention of doing it. Then while we were doing our prep to leave a really big and nice boat launches and they pull the trailer up next to us and one tire was leaking, as I was getting ready to mention it to the driver I got a nice surprise my son comes around the back of the boat and says excuse me sir but I believe you have a tire leaking. THe guy said thank you son and tells me how nice it was and he would worry about it at the end of the day. Proud moment of my day. We did see that toon on the way home and they made a real sharp and abrupt turn almost losing the whole rig, he turned and asked if that was why I was so picky on everything being tied down and secure.

Sorry that was so long and I actually had a point other then to complain and brag on my son at the same time. I guess just some people right??? Hope someone can figure out what my point was in there. Have a good weekend everyone.

While I know your a little pi**ed about the no thank you I can't imagine a better situation for your son to learn from, By the sound of it you have done a pretty good job with the little guy but I think he deserves a guide, it appears your fishing skills are lacking:D

But, if they'd been catching fish, they'd have stayed out longer and this whole set of lessons for his son would most likely never have happened.;)

Not to be critical but you might want to leave a blank line between paragraphs so it's readable. I about went blind trying to read your story and gave up. When I was younger it was easier but now I need some help.

Trust me. Line breaks make a huge difference in readability.

Thank you for the compliments and I agree my fishing skillls do lack, but it has been about a 6 yearr break if not more before this season and getting the boat, I also apologize about the lack of paragraphs it was late no excuse but it was late. The funny thing about my skills so to say is that i use to be able to just look at the water and figure out what would be best to use and where would be best to be now I have a hard time even judging the color of the water. lol.

Sorry, but your story was so long with run-on sentences that you lost me what your point was.

Your fishing skills don't matter to your son. Just being there together is what counts to him. It's true that the apple doesn't fall to far from the tree, he learns what he sees you do and say. Keep it up and have fun with him. He will be married and have kids of his own to teach before you know it. But then you get to spoil the grand kids. Had my first grand son 5 months ago and it is a blast. We even moved from Atlanta to Pensacola and bought a house 10 doors down from my daughter to be with him. What a blast every day.

Good job with your son. It's good to see boys taught manners and honorable actions.

Cincy (and Jay)...
While Talmega's writing style may lack something, his overall behavior gets a plus from me. Keep up the good work on your son. He can get the grammar and writing style from school. Stay involved and strongly encourage him to give 100% at school (and everywhere else) and that will make the difference. Having dealt with would-be gangsters, I thank you.

I can remember when my son was that age and I tried to teach him many of the same things you are doing. Now he is 25 and is one of the best friends I have. You are doing the right thing, keep it up!:)

Thank you cannon i can remember my dad doing the same thing when i was a kid. However the big difference is my mom and dad were together and my ex split on me one day and now my boy is living wiht me and is acting out due to his mom making it obvious that she doesnt want him around. Hopefully he gets past this stage before i pull a homer on him lol. Before my dad passed away he and i were the best of friends i actually didnt have anyone else i hung out with besides him, if anyone needed either of us they new to just get ahold of one of us and the other was near. We worked together for 10 years at both a day job and a golf course and played golf every day we werent fishing. It was the best times i could ever have asked for, hopefully my son starts to feel the same way.

I already think he does since he was up 2 hrs before me and had gotten dressed and ate breakfast before my alarm went off. Then woke me up when it did and asked why we were getting up so late. Lol now if he could just be like that for school. Lol

It sounds as though you have taught you son well. You seem to be a rare breed these day, a parent that actually parents. I see it so often that people just think their children will "figure it out".

As far as the people you encountered well all I can say is some people you can never reach however it sounds as though you have reached your son and that is what's important. Good job and thank you. Even though you were frustrated by the rudeness of the other two boaters you were still willing to help the next person but your son beat you to it. That says alot about his and your character.

(BTW: I'm not a very good fisherman either lol)
