Re: Are you mean enough to make this list?

It appears that the mean states/cities have large culture differences. Or it means that there is not enough rednecks in those cities with rifles in the gunrack of their truck window. Naw, that last statement can't be true, Texas is on the list. :p :D

Re: Are you mean enough to make this list?

It just means those cities are handling their problem in a way that the National Coalition for the Homeless doesn't like. That indicates that those cities don't tollerate people living in boxes on the sidwalk, dumping body waste on the sidewalk, and letting drunk and/or mentally disturbed people slobber on your windshield, smear it around with a dirty coat sleeve and expect to be paid for it.

It does not mean that the people are not treated well.

Re: Are you mean enough to make this list?

I guess we are mean enough in Manchester (about 20 miles from me).

I'm sure we made the list because of an incident that happened in 2002. Some homeless people had made a makeshift camp under an old bridge. Well they made a fire and it set the bridge on fire during rush hour, basically causing chaos for a few hours. After that the city went on a homeless person hunt to get them off the street and into half-way houses. Yup, that's mean.

How about the friendliest places for the homeless?

I nominate Portland, Oregon and Ashland, Oregon (aka Ashland-sisco).

Last I heard, they were going to build a homeless center (or something to that effect) in Portland on OUR tax money.

Come on up! The welfare is waiting for ya!

I have to admit.. we don't have the homeless problem near as bad as Calipornia. People using the doorways as bathrooms, etc... Man... you guys are right... you need a few more rednecks 'takin out the trash' down there!

H.

Re: Are you mean enough to make this list?

Very different situations occur and sadly some people CHOOSE this.

I've never been one to toss money to beggers and homeless.. with the assumption that they're liars and such.

Am I mean enough?? .. Hell Yes I'm mean enough.. only thing is that our "Financial Aid" is going to other countrys people and not our own.??

How in the hell can we justify helping other nations populations when we have this CRAP HERE??

I say cut off all this BS aid to those 'poor' tsunami victims over seas and open our eyes and see whats going on here w/in our own country for a change.. I think that out of the $40 billion (i think) that we said we initially sent over as 'US Aid'.. pump that into our own nations people and economy. (sorry for the rant)

I know of a few pot holes they could fill, trees that could be planted, streets that could be swept, garbage that could be picked up,.. AAUUGHH!! I must stop here.

worse place I've ever experienced in the states was Seattle Washington - specifically the Fishermans Warf area but, I understand they 'cleaned' that up now.

Re: Are you mean enough to make this list?

I see these homeless people everyday of the week, and let me tell you...

Anyone who gives any of these people money are just fools, wasting their hard earned money, because, every penny you give one of these homeless people, goes right to the nearest drug dealer they can find!

These people walk around in summer clothes here in NYC, during the dead of winter, wear sandals, and haven't bathed in months! Ever have to walk behind someone who hasn't bathed in 6 months? The stench is enough to choke a skunk!

They are here at Penn Station, the busiest place on the planet, with over 2 million people a day transversing Penn Station, absolutly nothing is done about these disgusting people who troll around begging for your money, so that they can get high!

Now, NYC boasts that they are the most helpful city when it comes to the homeless, well let me tell you something, they ARE NOT! They will pick up one of these homeless who are tripping out on whatever it is that they are taking, bring them to a hospital, where the taxpayers have to pay for this fool, to have his/her stomach pumped, in order to save their life! Once they regain conciencness, they are released, back to the streets, and the first thing they will do, is beg for more money, and when they have enough, the head right back to the drug dealers, and purchase more drugs, and the cycle begins all over again! Just how many times are the taxpayers suppose to pay to save the lives of these ungrateful ingrates? The homeless know that the taxpayers are paying to keep them alive, and they will even tell you that, right to your face, after you give them that dollar, all the while laughing at you!

As far as I'm concerned, the only good homeless person is a dead one! Why would anyone want to help someone who doesn't want to be helped? Why do we repeatably treat these ungratful people at taxpayers expence? If a person comes into a hospital tripping their brains out and on the verge of death for the 15th time, why do the taxpayers have to continually have to pay to save their lives? After the second time being brought to a hospital for over-dosing, leave them there on the gurney till they die! They don't deserve any attention from anyone!

Re: Are you mean enough to make this list?

One common factor I see in the meanest four states is they are all four within a warmer temperate zone.I guess they don't see homeless beggers standing in the snow and freezing weather as much.Summer heat doesn't count. :(

I do know that here in Corpus that there is a safe haven for many homeless people at the salvation army and every day they can eat a hot meal at "loaves and fishes" on Leopard st. Many of them hang out in the downtown area where these places are located. There is also an annual TV channnel sponsored drive for clothes , blankets ,and other supplies for the needy.

It has been my custom to always stop by downtown on my way to my Moms in Portland at Christmas and select at random one homeless person and call them over to my vehicle.I usually give one of them $20 and wish them a Merry Christmas.Sometimes there isn't much reponse, but other times the person is almost overwhelmed. It is a both sad and good feeling I get from this meager ritual.

Kenny, you arejust trying to be classified as teh most hateful person on iboats ;)

However, you do have a point. The only thing you are not conisdering is that these folks are almost ALL mentally deranged, and not responsible for their actions. We really need to be tolerant of them, adn what do you think you have a job for anyway??? Is it not to help them out so they don't have to fit society and work also????? Sheesh, the attitude of some people!!!!!

Flatbottoms,

I'm the most hateful person on iboats?

I'm not hateful, I'm just sick and tired of these low lifes who repeataly abuse the social systems, and then have the audacity laugh at me me, because my tax dollars support them!

And, I'm sick and tired of those bleeding hearts who believe that these people can be saved with money contributions!

No amount of money will help those who don't want to be helped! The only thing these ingrates want, is their next drug fix!

Why should my tax dollars go to these ingrates?

There are some homeless people that I've seen here in NYC, who are just really down on their luck and need a hand-out. They get the hand-out, and then persevere to get out of the system, which most do.

Its the cronic homeless that I have absolutly no tolorance for, and rightfully so!

Have you been spit on, cursed out, and swung at, just because you have a job, and are not willing to give your hard earned money to these ingrates, for their drug habits?

I have!

These people are known, and have been proven, to have AIDS, Hepititas C, Cohlora, and all sorts of other contagious deseases!! Come to my office, I can point out at least 50 homeless people with at least one of those deseases

Do you want one of those deseases?

They have the right to knowingly and willingly spread these deseases around? NOT!!!

Everyone deserves a fair chance in this world, but I'll be d a m n e d if I'm going to pay for their drug habits with my tax dollars!!

Come to New York City sometime, and see for yourself, the hundreds of homeless men and women who have absolutly no respect for you, me, or even worst, themselves!

Re: Are you mean enough to make this list?

Dude, I was kidding...guess it didn't come across that way...

When I took a CPR course in Seattle, the EMT's talked about how most of the cases they handle are teh homeless, alcoholics, and/or plain old drug addicts on the street. Their first reaction to a call to one of these folks is to walk up, push tehm with their foot (because they have learned that some of them jump up swinging) and then ask tehm if tehy are alright and do they need ehlp...if they determine they are in need fo their service, they use equipment that will keep them from touching the person as much as is possible...ie, devices that will block vomit when the person pukes during CPR, gloves to keep their filth and blood off them, (and in case of AIDS, that nice disease taht druggies adn homos have), and they use the new little shocking instrument for heart attacks if needed...usually they pick them up, take them in, and tehn do it again as you said after they are returned to the streets.

Re: Are you mean enough to make this list?

I have personally witnessed on ehomeless young white male, sleeping on an walk-overpass in Seattle, with one or more different young boys (about 8 - 12 years) almost every night. I would take a walk-on ferry across teh sound, walk ove reth freeway on teh overpass sidewalk, and tehre they were every day. Was he protectign tehm from harm? Well, from other things I saw, I know with out anydoubt that he was a homo and just ehlping these kids out...wonder if these kids were already homos, or if they learned this on teh street?
