You wont find Seafoam at your local dealer, they will carry BRP's Carbon Guard, which works well as a fuel additive. For the decarb treatments though, I prefer Seafoam, do you guys not have NAPA or the like in Florida?

HighTrim's right...my local (N. Florida) auto stores carry the SeaFoam.

Call around (Pep Boys, Advanced Auto, etc.), and you should be able to get your hands on a can!

Advance Auto Parts carries it. the can seafoam, is the same as Deep Creep. i just put some seafoam in a spray bottle, why pay for an aerosol can.

Decarb, take a can of seafoam put 3/4 of it in the gas tank, with only 1 gallon of premixed gas. put the rest in a spray bottle. start the engine, and let it come up to temperature. then remove plugs, and them some real good shot of seafoam into the cylinders, replace plugs, let sit 15 minutes. restart, and spray the rest of the seafoam into the carbs, so the the motor almost stalls, wait and repeat until the seafoam is gone.then take for a wide open spin. then put in new plugs, ad premixed gas to the tank, and take it for a wide open throttle spin. it is going to smoke like a house on fire, during this process.

afterwards compression.recheck

I just want to add to this that while you're following tashasdaddy's advice you make sure that either:

a) you don't embarrass easy
b) you have understanding neighbors who aren't quick with the 911 dialing
c) you do this away from civilization

The stuff works wonders and since I heard about it and have been able to find it have used it on every vehicle I have come in contact with or had poor running problems with. I'll tell you though, when they start smoking, and no one knows what's going on... the Fire Department needs answers! Don't ask how I know LOL

when you spray it, just one spray into the carbs? how close do you put the bottle to the carbs? you dont want to mist the engine with seafoam right?

i spray it directly into the carbs, until the motor starts to almost die, you want the seafoam in there, then let the motor catch back up and spray it again.

If you can't find SeaFoam anywhere, just use any manufacturers decarb or engine tuner product. I think SeaFoam is stronger than any of the outboard manufacturer's brand, but all you have to do is leave the other stuff in longer.

CRC makes a good decarb that you only have to leave in for a 1/2 hour or so.

The one thing I always thought was weird about SeaFoam is that it says it can be used as a decarb or a fogging oil. When you use it as a decarb you have to blow it out in 15 minutes, but somehow you can leave the same product in for 4 months as a fogging oil. Doesn't seem thick enough to be a fogging oil either.

it has a rust inhibitor in it for fogging oil.

Most NAPA stores also have Deep Creep and SeaFoam. Evinrude (BRP) dealer have stuff called Engine Tuner, which is the same stuff.

I always found that odd also. In addition, the Deep Creep says it can be used as a starting fluid with lubrication. Weird, how can oil be used as a starter fluid. I have never tried it as a starter fluid though. Has anyone? Because if it is a lubed starter fluid it'd be great for 2 strokes.

Re: Are there any Sea Foam Equivalents

"Engine Tuner" is BRP's eqivalent of Seafoam. It comes in an aerosol can and is applied differently than Seafoam. While Seafoam is sprayed in the carbs and is mixed with fuel, Engine Tuner is sprayed into the carbs only. You can also remove your spark plugs and spray some into the combustion chambers the night before you do the main application.

As with Seafoam, expect your engine to smoke like crazy when you use it. I've never used Seafoam but have been happy with Engine Tuner. I did an application of it about six months ago and recently had the head on my 1972 Johnson 65hp off, in order to install a pee tube nipple. I was pleasantly surprised to see almost no carbon buildup on the piston domes, or the inner surfaces of the head.

Seafoam is great stuff from what everyone says about it, but by all means, use the Engine Tuner if you can't find the other product.

I actually used a can of SeaFoam in the tank of my older Corvette...and, for once, actually 'felt' a difference!

Great stuff...dumb name.

Re: Are there any Sea Foam Equivalents

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the help.
The Mechanic at Funtime Boats recommended Power Tune Engine Cleaner by "Mercury".
He said it was like Seafoam, but in a spray.
Here's what he told me:

1) Take the boat out and get it warmed up.
2) Pull up to an island and with the motor warm and at a med. high idle slowly spray P.T. into carb. About 2/3 of a can.
3) Run the motor up to a high idle and quickly spray the remainder of the can in to the card until the motor Stalls.
4)IMPORTANT PART- Sit around for a few hours "DRINKING BEER" so the P.T. has time to soak in. (The can said at least 15 min. But the mechanic told me that that I would not be able to drink enough beer in 15mins) LOL
5) Restart motor and run the boat at full throttle for at least 5 min.
That's it.
