I had a chartplotter/fishfinder installed and tried to start my engine yesterday and nothing... No crank, no clicking, no dimming lights nothing. I have a repair manual for the engine but I am not very mechanically inclined when it comes to electrical (starter/solonoid/distributor etc.) issues. Can anyone explain what my best course of action might be to trouble shoot the problem? I have pretty much ruled out the neutral switch. (seems to shift well and didn't crank when I jiggle it with the ignition in start position. Batteries are fully charged and all electrical works well. I have a fuse bank under the cockpit but all fuses are in tact and not sure if this would apply. I read about jumping to test the starter but not sure which connections to jump without frying something. Any advice would be appreciated. I can post pictures if needed just let me know what to shoot.

Thanks,

Have you contacted the people that installed the plotter? They may have knocked something loose or shorted something out and blew a fuse back on the engine.
Did you check the fuses on the motor itself? That is where the ignition switch get's it power from. and check for voltage on the B terminal of your ignition switch.

I did contact them. They told me that it should not have been anything they did. I am not in much of a position to argue as I have not had it in yet this year. However, I did check the breaker on the engine and that didn't work. I'm not sure how to check the "relay?" that bolts to the engine. (small black square that the starter solonoid plugs into). Do you want me to take pics of something for better description?

Thanks Don,

After Looking At this figure, I found a 32V fuse that looks like it may be bad. I'll replace this first and see if that fixes it. If not, I'll keep moving from there.

It was the starter Relay. Test light found it. Thanks for the info!
