AQ 131 D Coil

I am trying to find an aftermarket coil for this motor. I don't know if I need one with an internal resistor or not. This motor is orginal using a point distributor. Thanks Barry

Welcome!

Most of the older Volvo's use an external resistor. The existing coil may have printing on it saying whether it's internally resisted or not. If you follow the wire from the '+' side of the coil it may lead you to a ballast resistor.

Mine ran a ballast resistor, in which case you need the coil without the built in resistor.

bump, my aq131A just bought a pertronix 3 ohm coil, and was wondering i have the resistor wire off the alternator, but i have 11 volts at the + on the coil, does this seem right??? if not should i take the resistor off the wire?? im stumped, the pertronix guys said if i have 11-12 volts at the + coil im good to go...
