Re: Appropriate Houseboat engine size
I have a 15' X 40' steel pontoon houseboat that I am looking to repower. I am on a small lake in Arkansas with a lot of coves and not much open water. I am not concerned with speed, but know I need to be able to dock alongside my end dock. My boat probably weighs around 7 or 8 tons. I was advised by the marina supervisor that a 50 hp motor would be sufficient to handle it on that lake. If i were to go with a 50 hp, would a new E-tec Evinrude 2-stroke or a Honda 4-stroke be best? Which would be more fuel efficent? What size prop would be appropriate?
