Re: Appreciating English

i remember several years ago my aunt and uncle had an exchange student from france. they asked me to take him to a local carnival one night, and i said to him "lets go check out some babes" and he just stared at me for about 2 min then said "what is the purpose of going out and looking at babies?"

we have a very confusing language. but the ultimate question is: yall, y'all or ya'll???

Here in the Magnolia state, its ya'll, :D

As in, "hey ya'll, watch this", famous last words of many a redneck!

The straight English is hard enough alone. Now, y'all threw in urban/ebonic, southern/redneck, hippie, etc...Far out man. :D That must be the reason the non-English speaking peoples don't want to learn. It's too doggone hard. :D

I have not been there, but I have been told the following:

The Black Hills of South Dakota......

They are not black they are green.
They are not hills they are mountains.
