applying gel paste to irregular surfaces?

Any suggestions for a tool for this?

I have some scratches and chips that I am trying to repair on tightly curved and some corner areas (strakes/chines, keel, etc).

Applying the gel coat paste with the putty knife which is what I'm used to doing doesn't seem to be getting me a very flat surface especially on the tightly curved areas.

I'm thinking I need to find some thinner and more flexible. I even thought a small brush might work better, but that just doesn't seem right.

The plastic spreaders used with body filler might do the trick. You can also try cutting a spreader out of a plastic coffee can lid. Its thin, soft and might be what you need to get into those curved areas. Plus you can cut it any shape you want.

Thanks. I was thinking something like the coffe can lid material, but nothing had popped in my head yet where I might find the material laying around.

I spent too much time lying on my back sanding last night after the kids went to bed.

I'll give it a try if it ever gets back up to 60F. So far, looks too cold through the weekend. I guess I can spend some more time tinting the resin as it is still a bit too white.
