What engine model/year and PCM type are you wanting to scan?

Also what version of Rinda do you have? The original is limited now so you’d need the Rinda Pro or one of the ones you connect to a laptop computer Rinda offers.

I’ve never used a API 5000 so I wouldn’t be able to help with a comparison to Rinda technology.

There is someone on EBay that will rent the computer design hookup if desired, https://www.ebay.com/itm/275746812975?hash=item4033ca742f:g:lB8AAOSweN5kEe~q&amdata=enc:AQAHAAAA4MeiZ9b1FtfJcxodjvNVbK5lZdyciguGiOSRKmpKUbZ8BTq3KFZoX6oNwqZHyCqZUfF8r79odqlLiVd+vGL8el9U4z2ayJbt817l7Ab4ya5GTZky/HPoqsO0q4HCIBdG/7YK8Lk829PTFwFqslC3/833j/Twacq3JwBBske0JOf6Zvz2EzaAwwT2fOdz8baPzgQ1Gt1vcmf4j9Kilj+QHXS+fgwoG0Af2iOQr+WOpIYkGQmOjCdb3x2qPn7Kvf3j6BPpaELRiyMs95lvdQdoyRrT4BubxPZAsEbHZNc+Ctdr|tkp:BFBMnrn-veZh

Maybe @JustJason knows a little something on the API. :)

In looking over their website, (API) it seems they are wanting to go kind of like the automotive side of where you could update the system yearly for a seemingly high $ amount to where I believe Rind doesn’t charge for their updates…

Thinking maybe if you ran into an engine you weren’t able to read maybe you haven’t had a chance to update the tech-pro that we’re supposed to do… Here’s the info to do the update if needed, http://www.rinda.com/techmatepro/tmpro_res.html

Other unit updates found in here,

Might be an outdated website site but it mentions Mercruiser only goes up to 2017 under applications but does show G3 so be careful with that should you go with them.

  • Features:
    Read fault codes
    Displays live data
    Performs engine tests
    Service monitor reset
    Component actuation
    Read run time hours
    Reflash capabilities
    System information
    Free updates
    And much more…

    Applications:
    Mercury outboards 1994-2017 25HP - 300HP
    Mercruiser 1992-2017
MEFI 1-4 motors (all brands) 1992-up
    Yamaha 1998-2017 HPDI & 4 Stroke
    Johnson/Evinrude 1999-up Ficht & ETEC
    Suzuki 1997-2017 40HP – 300HP

NEW APPLICATIONS ADDED IN 2016 BELOW
Honda 4 Stroke BF Series 2004-2017
    Nissan/Tohatsu/Mercury 4 Stroke EFI 25/30 HP
    Mercury G3 4 Stroke 2010-up 30/40/50/60 HP
    4 Stroke 2012-up 150 HP
    4 Stroke 2014-up 75/80/90/100/115 HP
Mercruiser Sterndrives with ECT System 2008-up
Only thinking just a bit more into all this, I’m not sure if you do other marine units such as sea-Doo, wave runners, etc. but if you did it doesn’t seem as if any of these would connect to them so you might need to buy something else still…Not totally sure but something to consider thinking about as well.

I've never heard of API, just had to google it myself. It looks similar to a Can-Doo.

I use Diacom near daily. What engines are you going to be working on and what are you looking for your scan tool software to do for you?

techmate mostly does mercuser/mercury. no honda, yamaha, evinrude...
the API is relatively cheap if you buy parts from SEI, which i do. they have different teirs depending on how much business you do with them.

You didn't say what you were going to be working on.

If you are going to be working on Mercury, Mercruiser and Volvo Diacom is the best you are going to get short of buying G3 and Vodia, which you can not get without a dealer license. The best part about diacom is the updates have always historically been free.

Candoo Pro is the best you can get for Yamaha and Evinrude if you are not a dealer.

The SEI kit doesn't look like it has the same coverage as Diacom and Candoo.
