I just spent a whole weekend towing skiers with my 18' Holiday Aluminum with a 3.0 liter - I have a 17 and a 19 prop - the 17 yanked all the SL boys and girls out without an issue - and they had comp SL skis- but they were all experienced skiers - they loved the Aluminum Starcraft because the wake is very small at 30 mph. Beginners get sore arms no matter what you got.
Its all about the prop pitch - you could even go with a 15 - that and getting the throttle hit so you don't bog.....
Of course my boat probably weighs 1400 lbs!
