The floor immediately in front of the gas tank on my '93 379T is soft.
It's the area just in front of and underneath the glass shell that the seats bolt to. I pulled the carpet and it looks like the glass has separated from the wood and lifted. It pretty much spans the width of the seat area and only comes as far forward as the drain. I imagine if I break through the glass I'll find rotting wood as the boat had been sat outside for a few years without a cover. Just wanted to know if anyone here has had to replace this section of floor and managed to do it without taking the cap off? The floor from the drain forwards and under the console feels and sounds solid. I'm assuming that where the boat was sat out in the rain, the carpet soaked up water and then allowed it to pond around the drain and screw holes at the base of the gas tank cover; where it slowly seeped into the floor and caused it to delaminate.
I haven't done any core samples or cut into anything yet. I've pushed on the motor a bit and it seemed solid. So I'm thinking of just finishing up the re-wire I've been working on and run it a few times; then I'll make a decision next year as to whether or not I want to tear into the floor and anything else I find below it.
