Anyone reflash an ECM0402?

I have what I thought was a 2003 ECM555 that turned out to be a2003 ECM0402. The Rinda diagnostic tool that I use shows 0.0 engine hours, 279,000 hours of mid range rpm usage (0.0 hours in all other ranges) and will not clear the rpm history. The adapter that I am using is for a standard 4 pin DLC connector (however the Rinda manual makes no mention of an ECM0402). The boat runs fine and all other ECM functions seem to read correctly. The Tech at Rinda said the diagnostic tool is working correctly and suggested a reflash of the ECM. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Yours/The ECM's original name number wise is still 555 nicknamed triple nickel ECM/PCM all used by Mercruiser made by Motorola. The added number thereafter I believe to be an added carryover probably for better identification from Motorola as the 0402 is also listed in the following link of ECM info plus a few other numbers within the Motorola named sticker...,http://obd2allinone.com/mercecms.asp

Mercruiser's ECM Calibration Label tends to use like the following info below for their in-house Calibration guide.
An ECM can be readily identified by the two wire harness connectors A and B.
The ECM calibration label includes the information necessary to determine the calibration
that an engine is equipped with from the factory. The top line is the engine model
designation. Alpha ECMs must only be used on Alpha models, Bravo ECMs must only be
used on Bravo models, and Inboard ECMs must only be used on inboard models. The
second line specifies the simple calibration number and version. In this case it is calibration
863618, version 4. The bottom line lists the model year of the ECM, in this case 2005,
followed by detailed identification numbers of the exact calibration. Ensure that you have
this information before calling customer service.

As for the odd engine hours I believe that has come up before online like a couple of years ago I want to say...If I recall correctly the odd hours was an issue with the scan tool internally.

If at all possible, maybe try another scan tool some day and see if it reads the same.
Did you try disconnecting then reconnect the scan tool say a few times and rereading the engine hours? Sometimes that may need to happen to get a proper reading...Also be sure the scanner cable cord isn't near the spark plug wires, etc. which could cause RFI type interference.

If I happen to locate the info I'm thinking about for odd engine hours i'll let you know.

To continue this some after further searching, It is interesting of why they dropped the 555 in front of the ECM0402 number. I figured maybe to shorten up the numbering system some but it's starting to not appear that way. Maybe the 555 just sort of stuck over the years for easier reference? because some continue the 555 number and others only reference them as ECM0402, ECM0401, Motorola PCM03 DTS PCM, etc. etc., Though they'd all preform in about the same manner for engine scanning, etc..

Chris would have an interest in The High Performance MPC555 ECU Project - Sonic.net which have internal workings diagrams.

vetplus40, Maybe try calling simon performance technology and OBD diagnostics to see what they have to say since they both listed it as such.

Thanks for the info. I ended up buying this boat to make the "better half" happy and had forgot that I posted the question before we bought the boat.
The ECM certainly looks like a ECM555 with the two connectors, but I had googled a few pics and those all had the "555" in the part number. As such, I thought that I might have a different type of ECM.
Rinda assures me that there is nothing wrong with the unit based on what the other functions do. I also used it on a PCM-09 and it worked correctly. I did locate another ECM-555 nearby and am going to see how it reads on that boat.
Thanks again for the info.
