Re: Anyone personally know a homeless person?

Whenever I see a homeless person I buy them a sub or a sandwich. :)

I helped this one guy out that was homeless for about 2yrs heres the story. .

So I went over to him one day and asked .. Whats up.
He told me this horror story about his life's downfalls.

I got to know him very well and one day my friend Bob needed a worker for the day.
I said to Bob, I'll be right back with one. I went and got Rick,
Rick has been working for Bob for the past 5yrs making about $25k a year ??

I get a bottle of wine every Christmas from Rick for helping him get back on track . :).

So don't ever look at them as useless or druggies most are NOT !!.

Re: Anyone personally know a homeless person?

Obviously theres a huge difference between abandonment homelessness and ending up on the street due to ones own defiance and belligerent nature.
The former are victim, the latter are volunteers.
The former experiences pain,
the latter "suffers" due to the choices they make.

The latter type can only be helped when they've beaten themselves up and are good and bloody, then they become teachable.
Pain is the touchstone of spiritual growth, so don't try to cushion their blow.

They won't understand but its better to understand than to be understood.
You are exactly right.

Obviously sleeping in a car and living in a shelter have not yet inflicted
enough pain. I would think everyone has some ability to look inside
themselves. Maybe some can't do it themselves. Probably some form
of mental illness at play here.

You would think after two failed business's and countless lost jobs, now
living in a car their would start to be some inner reflection. From things
he said that is definitely not the case. He blames his misfortune on a
bad economy/lack of jobs in our area, his age, etc. I think it's to the
point where their needs to be some kind of intervention and then counseling,
A LOT of counseling.

I've had many people help me in life so I don't know if I can stand idly by
and watch a big hearted and basically a good person's life end in tragedy.
I don't know what to do but I think I'm going to start by talking to someone
else who knows him and see what they think.

It only took me 45 years to get a clue, But I'm fairly quick witted.

A mind that is seriously afflicted doesn't want to get well, it fights truth.

Intervention , generally, doesn't work.
Its ok for children but adults take a set and remain firm in their convictions.

If he isn't ready he isn't ready. Plant a seed of truth and let it sit with him.

Most of the "homeless" people here are "street people" with drug/mental issues and I dont participate as member of their social circle..lol

Once again great wisdom and advice. :)

I like that, short sweet and to the point.

While it is true that some create their own problems, this is a much more complex issue than that. I'm going to leave my comment at that, because if I don't, I'll surely violate iboat's "no politics" rule by about the third sentence.
