There is a chemcial called Xylene. It will strip any paint going...Now if it strips your gel coat..Well your gel coat was just hanging around.

woosterken posted my recomendation. I oven cleaner to remove painted lettering off of a truck and I was amazed at how easy it was to remove, how well it worked, and how smooth and clean the finish was when finished. I would try it on a remote spot first just to be sure, but I was once told that the finish on a boat is tougher than a car finish.

I would use acetone and fully expect to have to buff the area to bring back the gel coat shine.

X2 acetone would most likely work...just like removing nail polish IMO.

Oven cleaner might do the trick, the blue can. If it is indeed gelcoat under the paint, the paint can also be wet sanded off with 400 grit wet paper, then 800, then 1200. Light compound into surrounding areas and then waxed.

I'm with some others here though, like the look of the numbers on there.;)

I just picked up a Kawsaki SXR jet ski that has some spray painted race numbers on it. I was wondering if there was a checmichal or process that would remove it but not hurt the fiberglass or white gelcoat?

So marine grade 3M rubbing compound did the trick and removed all the paint!

I would leave the numbers and add the letters MPH

cool, glad it worked out for you. do you have an after pic? The numbers and paint scheme did look quite cool but if it wasn't for you it wasn't for you. Im just wondering if the spot where the numbers were is a different white to the rest? cheers mate
