Has ayone ever just bought the ingredients and made this stuff themselves?

Mike

You would probably spend MUCH more than it would have cost you to just buy seacast. You obviously wont be able to get the ingredients in the quantities they do, and thusly it would cost you more just for the ingredients. THEN you have to figure out how much of what goes into it.. You would probably waste quite a few batches there... Next...what IF you DO mix what appears to be the right stuff...then it fails. You have no one to go back on for a faulty product.

Save money..buy the real thing!

I started with a good resin, added Cabosil, milled fibers of different lengths and some micro ballons. The ratio of these products may change for different types of uses and how you plan to apply it, more resin if you want it flow, less if you want it to hold it's shape. Plus there are different types of catalysts, for thin areas the normal catalyst you can easily buy works well, for thicker build ups you can get blended catalysts that will not get nearly as hot, these aren't easy to get unless you go to a fiberglass specialty store and special order it. The better the resin and the more glass fiber you add, the stronger it will be, VE works very well, but ISO resin can be used with good results also.
