Anyone catching any white bass yet?

If you are let me know where so I can kind of judge when they will start here on the Ohio. Usually it's around mid May but they never came on last year at all. Used to catch 25-50 an evening but last year we caught 11 all summer. We have those rotten asian carp here now and their numbers are getting bigger. These are the ones that jump in your boat and slime it or worse take you out of the boat.

Heck yeah we eat them. I love bluegill and crappie and these eat just about as well when you keep them in the half to one pound range.

I've heard special cares needed when you're fileting them because of something? They have started the spawning run up the creek from Raccoon Lake.

Dangit! gonefishie we used to drive the three hours north and fish for them ther but the last three out of five years they haven't had a spawn according to the DNR guys up there. We used to go up the first weekend in May which was the normal spawn for them but we ended up with not enough to make it worth our while.
We are going up again May 13-15 and fish Rockville lake for bluegill and redear. Last year when we went up for the whites the guys in the room next to us at the motel had a cooler with 75 redear and bluegill in there that they caught that morning.they come up from, if I remember right, Tennessee every year just to fish that lake for them. It is only a half mile long and very narrow so we are going to try our luck for them on thursday afternoon and all day friday. We are going to try Rockville on sat. am before we head back for the whites.
Why don't you come along. It is trolling motor only on Rockville but if the whites are biting on Raccoon we will definitely be there. We will be staying at the Motel Forrest in Rockville.
After all these years of seeing you on here it would be tits to meet you in person, have a few beers, and hopefully catch some nice fish.

Thanks for the invitation fireman57 but I've got a tournament that weekend. Maybe we can hook up later in the fall when they drop the water, the bite can be pretty hot too. I fished a snowball tourney there last November and got into a school of whites in front of the beach. It was ridiculous.

Ive been fishing Lake Belton in TX and they are in full swing. Worst day weve had in the last three weeks is about 10. On average were between 15 and 25.

I dont even have a fish finder we just follow the birds around in my little lone star.

Thanks. that means that they should be going here in three to four weeks. The Ohio is down to pool right now but usually goes up with the April/May rains. Haven't had much weather yet and maybe it will stay that way.

I was at lake Barkley last week in Ky. (land between the lakes) We caught about 30 in a weeks time.

Been walleye fishin in western Erie, just started to catch a few W. Bass this week up shallow, so there on there way

On Barkley you only caught 30 in a weeks time? When they are running you should catch that many in 45 minutes. I assume you weren't fishing for them but caught them as incidentals to largemouth. Hope they get going. Going to try to get out next weekend.

I was fishing for largemouth while others in our group were mostly fishing for crappie's. They were fishing mostly with minnows and jigs. They caught more than i did.

I fish the upper wabash river and we've been doing very well for two weeks now. Hopefully thier run up the river goes at least through this weekend cus I ain't got my fill yet. If you ask me white bass are one of my favorite fish to eat. You just have to take your time when filleting them and be sure you get all the red meat out and the lateral line.

Go get em fowlplay. Yeah you want the lateral out if they have one. The Ohio down here at evansville has been down but I haven't had the chance to get out there yet. Gonna rain again this weekend. how far up the Wabash are you. Have two kids in w. lafayette right now. Will be at raccoon in rockville in mid may. They used to have fantastic white fishing there.
