I want to be able to acheive plane at a slower speed for pulling my young children. Has anybody changed props to achieve this. Does anybody have any experience with hydrofoils? I don't want to drill holes unless I have to but the no drill ones do not carry good reviews for staying attached.

I had a 1998 Q5 and I installed smart tabs and switched to a 4 blade prop and it was like a totally different boat. It lowered my planing speed almost in half. I am in the same situation as you with as six year old riding the tube and these additions made all the difference. I now have a 2007 Q7 that I am making the same mods to.

The Q5 has so many curves on the back that I am afraid to intall smart tabs. Did you stay with the same pitch prop?

I dropped down 2 in pitch since I was at the very top of my red line at WOT. I installed them alot farther towards the middle of the boat to get around the curves and they still made alot of difference.
