Any way to test a tach??

I have 2 tachs and want to test them to see if they are good, does anyone know of a way to do this?

You need to find someone with a tach tester. Our local Bass Pro has one. I forget the brand name. Equus maybe.

Hook it to a 12V battery, (+) to IGN, (-) to GND, if the needle doesn't go to zero, it's broke. Course, even if it does go to zero you still don't know if it works.

I dunno jt. The replacement tach in my boat sits on ?? 600 rpm with the key off. Apparently there are analog tachs and ???? digital tachs. I am told that analog tachs are yesterday's news and no manufacturers support them anymore. Not sure when the change was made.

Tach needles float with no power applied.

By "digital" I hope you don't mean digital display - it's nice, but the numbers change too fast to read.
