I want to get my Dad (93 y/o) an inexpensive USB scanner. Does anyone have any experience. I know the prices are pretty good for some of them but a few years ago I had a bad experience with an inexpensive parallel port scanner and I don't want to repeat that.

I've been using a USB scanner for a few years now, an AGFA SNAPSCAN 1212. Can't fault it. I'm sure that newer models are even better now.

Aldo

I bought a cheapo Canon a few months ago. I think it was about 30 or 40 dollars. Not excellent resolution, but good enough for what I use it for. Certainly not photo quality, but great for documents and scanning pics for email uses.

I bought an all in one lexmark for 99 bucks at Wally world and it works great for everyday printing and copying scanning

Sounds like he's not a graphic artist, so resolution probably isn't even an issue, even the cheapest scanner will have the capability of going higher res than you would ever want to email.

I've got a cannon at home that I've had for about 6 years, no problems. Paid about 100 for it way back then, probably free by now.

Thanks all. The cheapo Canon sounds good. Canon can't be all that bad and for as much as it will get used, 30 or 40 bucks is just right.

I've got the cheapo Canon also. For general purpose occasional scanning it works great. It works fine for photo scans also. For $50 you can't go wrong.

MG
