Re: any paintballers here?

Use to manage an indoor field many years ago. 23000 sq/ft. It was fun. We had a decent sized two story building and about 40 small huts set up in a neighbour hood setting. The floor was covered in 6 inches of sand. The sand was good until your "gun" hit the dirt although better than slaming you nogan of the cement floor.

I highly recommend that you use a jock and a neck protector that hockey player use. At some point, you will get hit in those two places. Needless to say.....it kills.

It's a lot of fun so long as the people you are with don't loose site of the fact that it is a game. The rush gets better the more you play with higher caliber players and your game skills improve.

I found that the indoor game was fast. Usually less than 10 minutes. That was good if you got shot out early. The next game was soon to start. The outdoor game is really different. I thought it was much harder. The playing field is usually much bigger and the teams are as well. Some guys were really good at hiding and blending in.

Equipment wise....well the sky is the limit.
Just because you have a fast "gun" does'nt mean you are a better player. Just means that you can "spray paint" that much more. Make your shots count. I had a AutoCocker that would fire 3 balls per second provided that I was steady with the trigger and I didn't chop a ball and that was a semi. I would carry a 20oz tank and 10 tubes that held 100 paint balls each. I would use that up in a single game (10 minutes indoors). Let me tell you that end pretty quick. At 10 cents a ball and 8 bucks per 20oz tank, it emptied my wallet just as fast. If you end up playing a lot, you may want to buy your own face mask. Rentals can get pretty gross. Make sure it is double layer of Lexan. It should be rated to stop a 22 cal.

It's a heck of a lot of fun. One thing I can't stress enough though is never remove your mask or goggles untill you are well off or away from the playing field and make sure you always use a barrel plug when you are not in the game. Seen some pretty close calls when people discharged the guns by accident in the staging areas.

Hope you have a great time with it. I did.

Well I just gat a Spyder imagine and Im going out on Jan 1st......I have played in few really big games and at 55 dollars a case of paint I understand the cost of being a spayer.....Im more of a sniper :D I am all about safty so no worries about keeping the mask on. I hear wearing a jock and cup is reall uncomfortable while playing but I can only imagine beinng hit there would be much more uncomfortable :)

Re: any paintballers here?

What he means when he wrote "chopping balls" is that when the balls are falling into the breach from the magazine, it is very easy to press the trigger before gravity carries the ball all of the way into the breach. If this happens, then the bolt coming forward will "chop" or cut the ball in half as the ball hasn't fallen all of the way. Then the paintball marker spits out half of a ball with lots of paint. The bolt and barrel are now soaked in paint. The next ball falls into the breach, then you pull the trigger, the bolt comes forward and the ball is shot out of the barrel, but now the ball is covered with paint from the last one, and that paint is friction on the barrel. So now your accuracy is off, distance is gone... and all of that friction in the barrel can lead to balls breaking in the barrel.

Moral of the story: carry an easy to use (preferably roll-up style rather than the rigid style) barrel squeegie. Be sure your barrel is easy to remove and run that squeegie through it. It's always a good idea to lube the barrel threads and barrel o-ring with lube, but follow the marker manufacturers recommendations.

Buy the full head helmet, and not the face mask, .... getting shot in the ear isn't fun either, there is more to protect than just your eyes.

Re: any paintballers here?

I have never played at a paintball establishment, as a few of the friends I play with have lots of land with a combination of fields and woods. We even built a bunch of bunkers and stuff out there.

We would play a lot of capture the flag type games or on occasion just team brawls.

If you are a sniper type, I would suggest getting an aftermarket barrel. Spyder's have a lot of options. I have a 21in that is more sniper, and then I also have a 16in rifled barrel. Once you start playing with the aftermarket barrels you realize the stock 9in barrel is garbage.

Since we werent playing at an establishment, we could use our own balls (some places make you buy and use theirs). If you look around you can find balls a lot cheaper than $55 a case. I bought a bucket of "buzzballs" for $26, and there were 2000 balls in the bucket. What you really need to do is figure out what brands of balls work for you and your set-up. A lot of times the cheaper ones break in the hopper or in the chamber, and others wont break at impact very well and just bounce off of people. When I first began playing all of us bought a differnt brand the first few games and let each other try each type to figure out what we liked.

Don't skimp too much on a mask if you buy one......some of the cheaper ones fog up real badly when you are running around playin. I will also second the cup advice. Make sure you clean your gun with a cleaning kit and lube it properly after each use.........VERY IMPORTANT. you will quickly discovr that a slightly dirty gun will cause incredible eratic shots and lots of ball breaks in the barrel or chamber

I use a marker in my special effects business. I have shot many differant types of "balls" that go from paint, dust hits, spark hits, ball bearings, and even some explosive balls that will penetrate 5/8 sheetrock or a car door. Most of the high powered stuff we shoot through a sweeney gun or a trunion gun. The entire key is to keep the guns clean.

Re: any paintballers here?

Thanx for the advise guys........I am fortunate enough to have gotten in with a team that is probably gonna get sponsered by Karnage paint,They say they will cover half the cost of our paint at the tour of duty games in 06' Also when we are not playing on a field we pay $30.00 for a case and its really good paint as far as I have heard and experienced. The leader of our team is an amazing air smith and good friends with the owner of Karnage and used to hold the patent on Worrpaint paintballs.......I am a newb but they really have helped out alot. He got me a great deal on my gun and yes a new after market barrel is my next upgrade. Our leader A.K.A. "Spyderman" has done some work for Spyder and is talking out a deal possably to tweak out some guns for Kingman. He has an amazing asortment of markers that are all custom. Word is Spyder is gonna send the team 5 of their new Scenario guns to critiqe..........but I have lived in a world of hype my whole life so Im a little sceptical of that happening....it sure would be cool though. :D

He played well and safe a was a very respectful young man........Last game my whole team except for him was shot out and it was him against 4-5 of the bad guys.......I had to pull him out cuz he wasnt gonna back down down. It was getting dark and I didnt feel safe about him out there cuz when they got me out they lit me up and I must gotten hit 10 times. He want scared....thats my boy. :)

Yep I heard of them .....kinda a little freaky to me...propane, a spark, and me with it in my hands......Im just not sure....they also have only come up with pump gun so far. With 50,000 shots per cylinder it is pretty interesting.

I play at an airfield some and on private property quite a bit. It sure is good exercise and a fun way to relieve stress and tension between friends and family :D

I have the Tippman A-5 with a JJ Ceramic Coated barrel. A friend of mine has the same marker with a Flatline backspin barrel and response (automatic) trigger. Not fair :(

Re: any paintballers here?

It's been so long since I have played paintball.
We started doing it about 20 years ago, when the original splatmaster was the first gun to come out.
http://www.forceofnature.com/albums/album02/Splatmaster.jpg
The guns now-a-days are so much more powerful, but I did get my share of kills with it. :D
It would only hold 11 rounds. Pretty lame!
