Yep, we do a lot of Gull lake, Bay lake and Farm Island Lake boating. In town I live right by Weaver Lake.

Re: Any MINNESOTANS here?

Even tho I live in WI now, I spent most of my life in Mn and will "always" be a Minnesotan at heart..

Mr-T, Cook, Lake Vermilion????? My old stompin' grounds. I try to get up there as much as possible, especially in summer. Graduated from HS there, class of '80. What a small world especially coming from a very small town. If you can believe it, the town I live in now is even smaller. Alot smaller!

What's your background?

Unfortunately you have to wait a few more months before the Minnesotans come out of hibernation, What you are reading is actually an automated response from the server......

WIMUSKY,
I'm from Va just south of Cook but have been up here since '83. some of our friends are of the Cook class of '80. The world is getting smaller but the Vermilion walleyes larger. Downrigging is the best, just love it. Mr-T

Re: Any MINNESOTANS here?

They finally put a slot limit on Vermilion so the walleys are getting bigger. Awhile back, it seemed like all we could catch were "cigars", as we called them. Still tried to keep enough to make a meal. Downrigging on Vermilion? 1st time I ever heard of it. Back in the day, all dad did was backtroll with a leech or minnow in a 14' boat. We never got out of Frazier Bay. Going over to Big Bay on the Tower end was totally out of the question. Now, that's where I hang out. These days I mainly musky fish. Go figure.

Say, I'm going to send you a PM and take this offline. Don't want to bore others.......:)

Another Minnesotan checking in. Originally from Milwaukee but have lived in the Cities for nearly 20 years and own a cabin on Vermilion, the Cook end. It is a small world.....and I'm loving the Vermilion slot. I'm catching more and more 22-28" walleye than ever before! In fact, I'm heading up to the Big V on Friday morning. Have to find a few more dying trees to throw in the wood shed.

Cool. Where's the cabin? Wakemup Bay/Narrows? The slot definitely helped for better quality walleyes. They should have imposed that along time ago.....

Black Bay area.

I'm generally in favor of slots and limits as it keeps the fishery in good shape with all of the constantly increasing pressure.

Re: Any MINNESOTANS here?

It's pretty cool crusing up the channel to get to the bay. There's a good reason, as you know, why they call it Black Bay. Fished up there once while anchored and eating lunch. Caught either a catfish or a large bullhead....... Been up Norweigen Bay alot. Vermilion is turning into Lake Minnetonka North. Still an awesome lake.....
