thats good info.....I havent been down there in a while. I was referring to the 2nd bridge they were building on the way to echo bay though. it was a 2nd bridge just for northbound traffic it looked like. it was adding to a narrow river crossing i believe. it was out in the middle of nowhere. guess its not that big compared to the hoover dam bypass though :D

The Hoover Dam Bypass bridge is set to be open to the public in November.

I'm not holding my breath on that... They put up a sigh when they started the bypass bridge and double lane road from Hoover Dam that said it was supposed to be completed in 2007 (if memory servers me right). Then the 7 was covered with an 8, then a 9.... I haven't seen the sign since they diverted traffic, but I'm guessing they have updated the sign with a 10 or 11 by now :D The Hoover bridge is looking good and could be open in a couple months, just went through there this morning and it looked like all the decking was complete, don't know I was driving and not paying too much attention to the bridge.

We went through there 2 months back and it wasn't done, you had to drop down to go across the old bridge. I was thinking they built the new higher bridge so it wouldn't flood and wash out, like some of the other "Lake Mead road" bridges have in the past. They are replacing a bridge going north out of Echo too, towards Overton.

Honestly, If I were to go to Echo from Vegas right now I would go through Overton. If might be a longer drive and crappier lake road, but at least you don't have to choke down 15 miles of dirt road,,, dusty, mud if they are watering... 3-4 miles was bad enough and everything had a nice dusting that I hosed off when I got home. If you go early or late, going through Valley of Fire chops off 20 miles or so. If you go during business hours, you have to pay the Valley of Fire entrance fee, which is just about the same savings in gas so it's a wash. I don't know what the park rangers think about bringing a boat through there,,, I've only done it night or early morning when they were closed

Yea, those signs got changed a lot with the crane fiasco & all. In 9/06 high winds cause a high-line crane to collapse that caused a 2 year delay. I was really looking forward to the bridge being finished. Luckily there weren't any injuries though.

It seems to be on schedule for a November opening. Makes me look forward to next season all the more.

I didn't realize there was all that construction on the way to Echo. I haven't been on that road in quite a few years. I guess that explains why I haven't seen as much boat traffic from the arm down to Temple Basin.
