So I'm looking at a boat for sale. It's a 1989 Dynasty 190 Apollo

The engine is a 4.3L i/o I couldn't hear it run (b/c it's like 30? F here and winterizes), but my neighbor, who I trust, tells me it runs fine. . . let's assume it does.

Interior looks really nice for its age. The trailer looks great, too.

Two things are wrong with the boat, the owner told me:

- The fuel gauge doesn't always work. Sounds like there's maybe a short in the wire or it needs replaced. He never cared about that because he didn't slip the boat, and he just fueled it up every time he put it on the water.

- The floor in the back is soft. He showed me where he put a carpeted piece of plywood over the floor (it's just floating, he didn't attach it) as a "quick fix" and said he was going to replace the floor eventually, but now is just selling it.

Reason for selling: he bought a camper and has been using it a lot; he didn't take the boat out last year at all.

He is asking $3500 for it. Says he's not in a hurry to sell it and if I don't want it, he'll put it in the paper for $4000 in the Spring.

I, personally am not in a hurry to buy it, either (LOL), but wanted to see what you guys thought of this boat.

Thanks for the help! Pictures are below . . . .

I see why the deck is soft in the back, that boat cover makes a nice little pool when it rains.

You'll need to figure in stringer repair to go along with the deck repair, maybe a transom too.

I personally don't think the boat is worth more than $2000, if that much. there's an easy $1000 worth of repairs that need to be done to it.

I agree. Plus, his gambit of adding to the price come Spring? Good luck with that. An additional winter is NOT going to improve the boat- rot never sleeps- so the boat is going to continue decreasing in value.

Yes, it sounds like your biggest issue may be structural rot, based on the soft floor, as the others have stated.

Repairing a boat's structure is really fun . . . :puke: . . . so you should probably check that out, as the purchase price may be just a down payment on the cost to get the boat in a safe, usable condition.

I would want to see the engine run. The boat will probably be there in the Spring time . . . and if not there are plenty just like it.

Agreed! As usual, I appreciate the help.

I'm mostly looking at boats as I find them, more as an academic endeavor, but I'm ready to buy if its worth buying.

I agree with this statement 100%. Emphasis on the "if that much", part.
