Another water pump question!

I just replaced the water pump on my 1991 150hp Mariner. Since it hadn't been touched in 5 years, I replaced everything- impeller, base and housing. I even put an air test on the lower unit which held 10 psi for 10hrs. It seems as though I get very little water flow at the tell-tale when idling once the tstats open. When I increase rpm, the water stream increases as well. This all appears correct but I am a little concerned because it seems as though the stream at idle is less than before I replaced everything.

Is there something that I could have messed up on? I made sure all parts were OEM and matched what I removed when reassembling. There was some silicon caulk around the outside of the old base. Should I have used a gasket sealer when assembling? If there is a little water leaking around the base(not into the lower unit though) would it cause a problem such as loss of pressure? I took it all apart again and couldn't find anything that was obviously wrong.

Thanks for any info

Re: Another water pump question!

I see a lot of posts about tell tales not peeing properly. First check the obvious. Disconnect the line from the block and blow compressed air backwards into the pee hole. I did that to fix mine that became clogged at the oriface.

You probably did ok when you replaced the impeller. I sprayed my gaskets with sealer but the book did not say to do it so it's not necessary. Is the motor getting too hot? If not then the impeller is probably working fine.
