Hello all, I just recently purchased a 1979 marlin open bow ski boat with a Chevy 350. This little jewel needs an interior makeover and fortunately the floor is solid. I just plan on replacing carpet and seats, coming up with something a little less "70s" for the doghouse and gauges.

Welcome to the forum it?s a great place to find info. After you make about 3 posts you will be able to post pictures. The regulars who post on here really know boats. Good luck with your project!

Thank you, I've been looking around on here for a few days and you're right, it didn't take long to figure out that there is a lot of knowledge here.

I'll be putting some pictures up for sure, it's not really worth bragging about right now but she will be.

Welcome aboard. Nothing is not do-able. It's just a matter of the amount of blood, sweat and tears you're prepared to shed, and time and money and sanity and relationships and social life etc. etc. But at the end of it, you'll own a boat that will make it all worth while!

No doubt, I've restored several cars and trucks and one other boat. The boat was by far, more enjoyable for me. Like old cars and trucks, the older boats have great lines and curves and the possibilities of what you want to do are nearly endless. My wife doesn't complain about my projects because they keep me out of trouble so it's a win-win

Hey StacyW, welcome to the resto forums. looking forward to see your project.

I guess Ill be the first to shine the light on the fact that very few 40 year old boats come thru here only needing cosmetic updates. Theres a 99% chance you will need to replace the transom and stringers due to the core materials being rotted inside the glass encapsulation. We generally drill samples of the core wood in both transom and stringer bottoms. to confirm.

Lets hope ur a 1%er :)

I'm pretty confident about the core. I bought the boat from my dad's best friend. He bought the boat new and had always maintained it very well, he only sold it to me because at his age, it's gotten to be too much to keep up with. However, I will be checking everything out before getting too deep into it. I certainly don't want to have to back up and start over. I do appreciate the input though

I hope everything works out. Usually there are more hidden issues on older boats. But hey you?ll have something cool once you get her all done.

Well you just might be in the 1% of people that own a old boat thats not rotted
It definatly looks like a well taken care of boat
Whats your plans? Are you going to paint it,update the interior?
