Another MPI fogging question

Out of curiosity just so I understand, when I disconnect the boats fuel line in order to connect a remote tank (Attwood 3 gal outboard tank) I plug the end of the boats fuel line. I have at times dropped the hose while fiddling with it yet no fuel came out. Additionally, when I go to connect the outboard tank hose (4 or 5 feet hose) it is not always primed. This obviously introduces air into the system. I suppose a simple change of the fuel/water separator, even if the new one is primed, would also introduce air into the system. My question is, what does the fuel system do with the air? Is it purged somehow? I have never observed any stalling/sputtering issues while fogging.

the fuel pumps simply suck in the fuel and air. there may be a momentary (undetectable) lean fire of a single cylinder or two. however dont over-think it.

Now if you do not get a good connection when re-connecting it up and the pump constantly draws in air. that is another issue.
