Hi guys!
Having some trouble with my MR 170, 86-mod.
When engine is cold I rarely or never have any starting troubles.. But after engine reached operating temp. and I try to crank, the starter sometimes will not turn at all. In most cases it will crank the first time, but 2-3'rd time it dies out, as if the battery is empty?!
I've got brand new Maxima battery, battery charging at 14.2V at running, installed a new starter solenoid, startermotor is about 3-4 years, new battery cables and pole-clamps and the ignition switch was new 2 years ago..
When engine running it runs smooth and perfect, no problems at all..
I'm beginning to run out of ideas of what could be the problem causing this..???

Thanks in advanced!

Howdy,

Take the spark plugs out and make sure that you're not getting water in the cyls. Sometimes a leaking riser gasket (after shutdown) will allow water back into open exhaust valves causing a temporary hydrolock....It'll seem like a dead battery or a starter dragging..... Doesn't take much water to do it....

I believe you will be replacing the starter soon. Has it ever been wet or submerged? If not it is the front bushing worn out.
