"...Was winterized before it was left out..."

What exactly does that mean? Maybe some acorns were buried under the seat cushions?

$500 for a boat that was parked all winter under a pine tree. The trailor tires and lower part of the motor are sunk into the ground. I think I am gonna go pick this baby up! With all the pine needles in it, I am sure I wont need an air freshener.

I wouldn't want the Merc, but I have the same boat. Its a 17'6" Glassmaster. I also paid $500 for it, but it had a rebuilt transom and a pair of aluminum saddle tanks in it that are worth about $250, or more. I've had mine for about 6 years and use it extensively. Like all tri-hulls, it pounds in a facing sea, but it will handle quite a bit. Its also vey stable laterally, which works well for me as a photographer. With a 65hp Johnson, I get about 29 mph (GPS) at WOT and about 3.5 mpg, if I throttle back. For those that want to go faster, its rated for 130hp.

I've also used this boat for numerous volunteer missions for the US Coast Guard. The last one was a few days ago, when I ran 15 miles out into Lake Ponchartrain, in regard to a sighting of a "green flare" near the Causeway. LOL - the "flare" turned out to be a reflection from a green nav light mounted on the bottom of the bridge!

There seems to be a lot of boats on Craigslist in need of some good ol TLC. I was looking for my first boat when I came across (now my) 72 Starcraft with a 165 Mercruiser in it. Everything was very clean....people needed to sell it for money, the economy hurting isnt good, but I got a lot more boat for my money because of it.

there are some good deals out there but there's always the guy who convinces himself that someone would be very priveleged to get to pull a piece of junk out of their yard and then bring it back to life.

By the conquistador. very interesting name.

I would think he needs to pay someone $500 to pull that pile of junk out of there and haul it to the dump.

I have 2 old foresters in my back yard that need to be chain sawed into pieces small enough to go into the trash.

Job for a cool day, old chain and bar, and full tyvek suit.

Was that boat even worth that much when it was new?

Well, its complicated, due to inflation, the rarity of the baby blue color, and the fact that contrary to popular belief, Mercury motors from the '70s are worth far more than the new ones LOL I see how he justifies his asking price

Re: Another great boat on Craigslist

Many years ago a friend had the identical little house boat. It was an amazing little rig, he and his wife spent nearly every weekend living on board. Was very economical, easy to handle and maintain. I always liked it and for many years looked for one for sale, this is the first time I have seen one.
