I have a 1986 Mercury 150XR2 BlackMax I have a new CDI Stator, CDI Trigger, new battery and recently a new Regulator "new style" I got rid of the original system because it started over charging.... The rectifier was bad so I just got the new style regulator and got rid of the rectifier and the old regulator....So my question is what the output voltage supposed to be?? at the battery and the solenoids it measures 12.8 then after 1/2hr or so it might hit 13v at idle increase RPM I see hardly any improvement.... I have 4 batteries in the boat and the engine only charges the cranking battery....I tested the stator charging side and it passed I also tested the NEW regulator and passed any Thoughts ? Thanks

Its only a 16amp output @ 5K RPM, 1/2 that at 2500 (8amp) and 1/2 that at above idle RPM (4 amp) and the new style rect/reg will charge slower at lower RPMS.

How run down the battery is. Really determines the RECHARGING current being supplied to it. Assuming all the electrical parts are in good condition. What type of chemistry is your battery ?

UPDATE: I just couldn't help it but tried again ..So I purchase another regulator and it charges I actual hit 14v so one down but my tach which is new BTW still jumps to 2k until i either tap on the front or restart engine I bet the rectifier dying ruined the tach...
