No it's true. You get a wet cold in the low 30's with gulf moisture it goes to your bones. Google it
Oh I know, but I took it as an antithesis to 'it's a dry heat' but you ice fisherman may not have experienced a116 degrees day with a 15 mph wind in the valley floor of Phoenix arizona.

Yesterday morning driving along Lake Ontario's southern shore there were branches flying through the air, but the lake was flat . The wind pushed the waves down and whatever was not pushed down went up as white foam and chunks of ice were surfing and skipping on the water.

Friday into Saturday we got freezing rain then a coating of sleet on top with some snow. Total about 3/4 inch or so. Then temps in the teens. Darn near impossible to remove without using tons of salt. Had a brief warm up Monday that melted the top layer then back to the deep freeze, freezing what thawed turning things into a literal skating rink. I still can’t get to my firewood piles. Need to invest in cleats.

I worked wildland fire for 25 years, spent many summers in the mountains of the west running around black ground putting fire out, I am well aware of operating above 100 degrees in 2 layers of long sleeve shirts and kevlar pants that don't breath.

What is with the freezing rain this winter, seems like we have had 4-5 rain events this winter.

Nothing to do today.

Today

Snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
Tonight
Snow, wind gusts as high as 43 mph.
New snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible.

Maybe I'll take a drive north to Hurley, visit a friend, take him out to dinner. Maybe drive over and watch those 30' waves on Lake Superior.
Today
Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
Tonight
Snow, heavy at times. Areas of dense freezing fog before 10pm. Blustery, with a north wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Snow accumulation of 11 to 17 inches possible.

On second thought, maybe I'll stay home and clean the bathroom.
You need to take up snowmobiling/ice fishing to stay sane during the long winters... .

I used to do both but....
I got totally bored with ice fishing. Then after going through the ice and having to walk 1.5 miles, I said F it, no more.

Used to have great fun on the sled, but eventually blew it up. More of a go fast guy than a trail rider.

I work in the cold, don't much want to play in it any longer.

I have restarted an old hobby after taking a 20 year hiatus, but easing into it as I prepare to retire, as it requires a lot of time.

That’s very cool. I have a fascination of Owls. Going to build a barred owl house here soon and get it up in a tree close enough to the house to watch them If I can attract them. Plenty of them around here. If you know of any tricks or tips to get that done please share.

This was in 2019 walking in our woods. There was a 3rd one out of the picture. They still had a lot of fuzz so not sure if they were flying yet, but wouldn’t be long if they weren’t. See some owls every year. Awesome birds.IMG_0337.jpeg

I see them when I’m hunting quite a bit. The way they fly through the timber completely silent is something to see.
