I just relaized my stren drive is missing the Anode down by the prop. I found it under a seat and when i tried to put it back on i realized why its is off. The non-stock prop that the previous owner put on is too big and hits the tail/fin part of the Anode.

So my question is what do i need to do. It seems to run fine without it.

Should i grinde it down so it fits? Should i put on a flat one?

What does an Anode do?

Does it effect preformance at all?

Thanks!

The anode fights the 'galvanic corrosion' battle, sacrificing itself so the the aluminum in the outdrive casing is saved. They need to be placed fairly well throughout the outdrive in order to supply the electrons to the other metals.

there is a flat anode for the prop area or there is also an offset fin anode. The fin anodes are really for outboards to offset prop torque, I/O's do not really need the fin. so, you should get either the flat anode, or the offset fin. Otherwise, the propeller will flatten out the improper anode when you put it in gear for the first time.

I installed a four blade prop on my 3.0 last spring and the prop hit the anode. I pulled it (anode) and ground 3/16" off of it. Didn't hurt anything.

I had a BAD problem with corrosion on my lower unit. The zinc anode wasn't being eaten away, the outdrive was. I replaced the anode with a magnisum one from this site and now my problem is gone.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... Either trim the tab you've got, or replace it with the off-set tab.... as noted above...

If ya ain't got P/S, it helps with the torque steer at the steerin' wheel....
