Why is the steering wheel in the middle?

Re: Am thinking of bidding....

Looks like fun to me. Should have a real nice power to weight ratio. I do know some of the Allison's get squirelly at fast speeds. Lots of chine walking if you're not careful and get the setup correct. Good luck!

As rayjay also stated: "Why is the steering wheel in the middle?"<br />That must be tough to drive like that. In the middle for kneeling/racing?

I does look kinda difficult to drive with the wheel in the center, seat to the starboard and port floor throttle configuration (or is it on the port side seat?) . There has gotta be a logical reason.....right?

Seeing as how it was a former race boat The steering wheel is in the middle to disperse weight. Mine was a former race boat and the steering wheel is in the middle.<br /><br /><br />

Where the heck are you 'sposed to drive from. The boat has a conventional runabout seat layout. Maybe you sit on an upside down 5 gal bucket, placed between the front seats.

Just wondering if I'll kill myself with it.
Tell the group a little bit more about that thought, boatbouy. Do you want to kill yourself?<br /><br />
Why is the steering wheel in the middle?
Seems obvious enough to me: the steering wheel is in the middle so when the captain gets thrown the first officer can take over!

Re: Am thinking of bidding....

$850 is a bit of a steep starting bid for a rig that old that has been sitting that long. It's going to take a few bucks to get that motor running properly. I wouldn't go much more than the starting price and even that may be a little high depending upon the shape of that Merc.<br />Stalker

Looks to me like it might need to add a few more gauges, with the twin throttle contols on both sides of the seat I mean is it a boat or a airplane?

I would think it's a great deal at $850. The price will probably go way up as the auction ends.<br /><br />Dan

MEMORIES! Had an Allison 14 that was raced back in them days with 70hp 3cyl Evinrudes and Mercs. Forgot the class.......rode just fine on the "pad" at speed. Center wheel stock, so I don't know where the seats came from. And the pup is over motored, but then again, never enough sometimes!
