Am I stuck with a 6 spline propeller

I am new to boating/fishing and it appears I messed up royally.

I bought/acquired a 1962 Merc 60 6hp motor and jon boat from the great-in-laws. I took it in to get the spark plug, impeller, gaskets and seals replaced. I was told as clean as the motor looked that it probably had only 20 hrs on it.

I took it out on the waters a few times about 6 to 9 months ago and it ran great but with low waters I apparently got it bogged down in silt and mud and spun the hub in propeller.

I have since been trying to get it fixed. I cant seem to find a prop shop that can repair it.

If I cant find a 6 spline prop, is it possible to change the propeller shaft to 8 splines?

have you looked on ebay? old props on their all the time. got my obsolete 11 spline there

I think you would have to change the drive shaft too. I thought about doing that with my 67 9.8, which has the 6 spline. I found a few on ebay that were new in the box and bought them..should be good for a while. I believe the 8 spline was brought out in 68 or 69 and don't know whether those lower units would fit your motor.
