I work on everything that I own, down to pulling the transmission on my truck and pulling the 454 from the boat and doing everything but the machine work. I'll be 52 next month and I hurt like hell for 3 days after I work on anything. I am fit and 5'-10" 175 lbs and everything hurts more than it did a couple of years ago.

What the heck is happening to me? I feel old.

It's not just you and it's not just 52. I'm "only" 47 and I find that if I'm not slow and methodical when I attempt just about anything that requires effort, I'm feeling it for several days afterwards. We lose flexibility as we age and every birthday adds a few more "aches and pains". Still, I always try and focus on the folks that are 70 and 80 years old. That way I can feel like a Spring Chicken.

Can you run a mile without barfing?

How about a 100 yard sprint? don't worry your not the only one.

( I'm 6.4 290p and if I wasn't climbing power poles and running my butt off chasing the crew every now and then I would be dead)

OH ya 46 years old

OK, I am not fit as you and not a lineman. I sit at a desk when I'm not walking job sites.
Running? No way I have too much titanium installed from neck down to tibia. How long do you run before barfing?:D

You haven't figured out why it takes so long to recover after major physical effort? Look at the road map leading to the titanium. My robotic parts hurt before, during and after hard work. It sucks. I just live with it and keep doing stuff like I was still 52, before it all happened. Just a lot slower.

Re: Am I old too soon?

I remember 52. Yes, it is too soon for age alone to be what is happening. What is happening is you are using muscles you don't use often to do stuff that you don't do often.

Being "in shape" merely means that you can live your normal life a your present age without fatigue or pain. If you reach beyond that it will hurt, whether you are 42, 52 or 77.The problem occurs when "normal" life changes. 42 wasn't what 52 is and later ages will be different still.

I am 25 years older than you. . .I will be 77 next month. . .and almost daily I discover that something I did easily as recently as 10 years ago I can't do at all and stuff that was easy 5 years ago hurts for several days.

You have to surrender the painless youth and accept pain because it don't get any better! I am in my late sixties but still do the things I did in my fourties. You learn to work slower and smarter.

Thanks to the older guys here, I am feeling pretty good with the pain. I have no plans on slowing and sitting and feeling sorry is not my style.

Be glade you have it, after the evening I have had will never colpain about pain again. My brother and dear friend died about 5:45 tonight while taking a nap. He has had many health problems over the years an didn't complain so the next time I take my 53 year old butt to the limit at work will be so glade I can still feel those pains.

Man, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my best friend (My Dad) to brain cancer 6 years ago and it hurts bad but I try to gain strength from the great memories. My pain is meaningless in the big picture.

PM me if I can help in any way. Stay strong.

mzahn - What a relief, I thought maybe I was headed for the dirt matress. Glad to hear it's normal, I'm 59 and I headed straight for the advil after doing the yard work and then re-wiring most of the boat today. I can barely keep my eyes open now.

Re: Am I old too soon?

At 46 my pains have just lingered in everything I do sometimes for days and some just stay with me as they belong but I still keep pushing and keep on keepin on until my pains and aches prevent me from doing anything but in my mind I think I will still try to do all the things love which is doing anything involving work. I inheritted this trait from my best friend my Dad and he's still puchin it @ 77 after 4 heart surgeries,2 knee replacements and surviving lymph node cancer!
