I am doing a repower and I am looking at intake manifolds as my old one was really rusty. I had the quadrajet rebuilt and i want to get the edelbrock dual plane match for that carb. Is there any reason I cannot do so?

Also I need a new oil pan and I can get the a steely from Autozone for 65.00 vs 239.00 for a sierra. What gives?

Ayuh,... Then Go for it....
It won't last like cast Iron does, but it'll work for awhile...

So why would it not last? The cast iron rusted out. I just thought that Aluminum would last longer.

Because aluminum Corrodes faster than cast iron Rusts...

Got it. So any performance gains would be negated by the longevity.

Re: Aluminum Intake

I'd be extremely suspicious why the intake rusted out and what the condition of the block seein' as it ran under the same conditions.

Have you had the boat since new?
What year is it?

also with aluminum you have to worry about electrolysis(sp?) but I use them all the time.

Re: Aluminum Intake

So it is not a problem using an aluminum intake? I am confused. Seems like this boat stuff is alot of snake oil, and they charge you out the you know what for it! The only thing I can see really needing to be marine rated is the spark producers. That is why I asked the questions about an aluminium intake. You can get one that will produce lots of torque over the stock one, and that is what we want right?

the block has a little rust on it, but I think the previous owner let some water sit on top.

Like i said, i have used them for years in brackish water with no affects. If you are running fresh water through it then you have even less to worry about.
I have about 7 grand wrapped up in this motor. I would not take the risk if i thought there was one.

As for it being the HP holy grail......not likely. It's part of a package deal. Carb, intake, exhaust, etc, etc. But it will help over stock even if so little until you get the other things.

I run aluminum intake(s) in brackish and even salt... but ALWAYS flush like crazy (as in put in up freshwater river when goign into sound where it's high salt content and then flushing out for the miles back up river...). No issues so far (I just swaped intakes, the older one wasn't corroded to any great degree). just my experience

On your oil pan question, I don't think you can use an automotive oil pan, marine oil pans have baffles, and or windage trays in them to keep oil at the pickup in rough water conditions. Some auto racing ones might work. Take a look at yours when you get it off to see the baffles and or trays. By the way, nice job your doing on that boat.

Re: Aluminum Intake

In the vein of the post above...

especially if you ever run it hard, it is probably worth going to a large capacity baffled oil pan and using a standard volume oil pump with the pickup welded on... A thermostatted external oil cooler and high quality synthetic oil can do wonders as well...
