I have a 16' 1960 crestliner Imperial that i picked up in lakeside oregon. It needs work as it has been sitting on a rusty ol trailer for years. This last weekend i removed the ply wood floor and all the foam planks and found about 3" of dirt and muck.I cleaned up the muck and took a wire wheel to the inside of the hull.I found some pin holes in about three different spots.I like the idea of using the marine tex and Gluvit. I'm pretty new to this aluminum repair stuff what is marine Tex? anybody else try this?

Welding is the best solution but short of that Jb Weld is the next best thing, do not drill and rivet, why make a bigger hole and I wouldn't use 5200 either, not what it was intended for.

Scuff it up really good and throw some JB on it and you are done, I repaired a huge crack in a lower unit with it and it held without leaking for the 3 years I owned and I am sure it is still fine.

That is pretty big so I would use the Jb Weld, Gluvit is for small pin holes and you have a hole, scuff it up really good way around the repair and use the JB, you may want to put some tape on the inside of the boat so it doesn't dribble through, should fix you right up.

Re: Aluminum hull pinhole

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was told NEVER to use a wire wheel or brush on aluminum because it will imbed steel into the aluminum creating a recipe for rust and corrosion. I was told use nothing but sandpaper or sandblasting.
