Have a 14' Alumarine fishing boat with 3 plywood based bench seats and a front angled seat. The boat needs the seats and transom boards replaced now after 35 years of being exposed to the elements.

The wood used is a 3/8" (I plan on using 1/2" or 11mm) plywood that has what looks almost like a thick wax paper bonded to the surfaces. It's not epoxy or fiberglass ... what the heck is this? I'd sure like to get the same wood as it was maintenance free (ok, neglected) for all these years and still remained solid.

That's MDO plywood, a very good material for boat building.

I'd use 3-4 coats of a Good Quality Marine Varnish that had good UV protection. I like Epiphanes.

What finish should be applied on MDO Plywood for a boat?

You can use any finish you want. Carpet, marine vinyl, or a paint on product.

What were you thinking of using.
