I just picked up an alumicraft t12 from 1987. The boat did not come with the transom plate. I can only assume it was made out of plywood. Does anyone out there know about these things? I am currently building the replacement part using the dimensions of the paint shadow left by the missing part as a guide. I determined thickness by measuring the depth of the cap material. Wow! What a substantial piece I have come up with! I bet it would Handle 10 times the hp that this little boat is rated for. In an effort to save money and time I used 6 layers of 5 ply 1/4 in plywood.
Now that it's built and in the paint stage it seems like a total overkill. If you have one of these please let me know how it was done, and if you don't have one give me your opinion anyway. I'll try and post some pics, this is my first post to this site.
Thanks!

Welcome to iboats!

You tried to link to the URL for your Photobucket page. You need to use the UL for the photos themselves, like this:

Looks like one heck of a laminating job you did.

Pics not working.

My 2nd boat was an 84' Alumacraft T16XL loved that boat. It was missing the CG plate also but there used to be a section here on iboats that listed specs for some manufacturers and models. I'm sure its still here somewhere I just can't find it anymore, maybe someone will help us both out on that. Through that section I found out that it was rated for 35hp so I upgraded from a 10 to a 25hp and man that thing thing would fly.

Re: Alumacraft 30 ply transom

thanks!
I think i got it.
Coated it with epoxy paint (solvent type not 100% solids) to protect it from the elements. The wood is from a shipping crate that I had lying around the shop.
By the way, does anyone have a capacity plate pic for this? mine is 96% degraded. I can read the number "310" on it. I e-mailed alumacraft, and they said the capacity was 470 lbs. they did not say what the 310 was, or how many persons. I am thinking its " 2 persons 310 lbs, or max capacity of 470" but i am not sure. Any input?

You type faster than I do.

That looks like a good lamination seal it up and you'll have no worries for years to come.

Oh and Welcome Aboard!

That pic is just right, I hate the tiny little pics!

You did a great job on laminating the plwood together! The 1 1/2" thickness is just right and not an overkill. It's much better to have too much transom strength than not quite enough!

Congrats on the new boat, you're gonna have some fun with that thing!

Thanks! I hope so.
I am using it in place of the one under it in the pic. its a 12' deep v I built (first and only build) that I have been shamefully bashing about the rocks and fishing out of. Its not quite finished, and I figured it never will if I keep using it...

I am sure the plate is different. That's a great boat, I would have gotten a 14 if I had the room!

Ok, so how should I attach the wood to the hull. There are holes in the hull for bolts, but should I use nyloc nuts with wasers on the wood side or tee nuts( thread inserts for wood , west marine can get them in ss)to give a nice flush clean appearance. Also, do want to insulate the ss bolts and washers from the hull with nylon washers? I could also cut gaskets out of gasket paper instead. I don't know how it was done because all the hardware is missing.

Stainless nuts/washers/bolts will be fine. Bed them in 3M 5200 marine sealant.
