Hello everyone, I really am a lost salmon :) my original alternator died on me, company here in Las Vegas offered to rebuild it. There was one part they cannot get anymore, but they offered a new alternator that fits within parameters of the boat.( 1994 Four Winns 4.3 ) this new alternator has different terminal location than the original. My question is I have a thick purple wire with a jumper red leed and a skinny purple wire and a green wire . Any pictures can help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Welcome
If they agree to standby what their offering as a replacement I would get it. If it doesn't work they can take it back

I've had this one on my 1988 4.3 OMC Cobra for about 9 years, it works fine with the OMC wiring, the hook ups are simple, the large B+ orange wire and the Sense and Excite. On some OMCs excessive resistance in the Sense circuit causes battery over charging because the battery voltage reading back to the regulator is too low, so the cure to that (from the instructions that came in the box from ARCO) was to disconnect & tape up the factory sense wire and just run a jumper wire from the sense terminal to the large B+ terminal. This works well and in fact some Volvos came wired that way. On mine once I changed that, my battery voltage dropped back down from 15.5 volts to 14.2, just about perfect.

I’ll give that a shot ! Thank you ! But I need to wait to so this because as I was peeling tape off the harness I broke a diode and now I need to wait 4 days before I can try . :/

ARCO IIRC has a tech line they can be helpful with questions. They helped me solve an overcharging issue on my OMC Cobra and also gave advice for how to properly hook up an electric auto choke for a boat that didn’t have one from the factory.
