So i have a 71 Mercruiser 140 3.0l IL4 181 cid engine, and i was on the lake the other day for about 3 hours and when i was going to head back to the landing i just got a click from the boat, nothing else but all the instruments and gauges worked.. So my guess is the battery died, and the alternator is probably bad. So im trying to find a replacement alternator, and ones i seem to find are like 200$ is this right, isnt there cheaper ones?

Any help would be appreciated, cause i cant seem to find a replacement like they dont make one for that year so what would work?

Re: Alternator Question (71 Mercruiser 140)

Just take your alternator to your local starter/alternator/electric motor repair shop and have it checked out and repaired. It's normally a lot cheaper than replacing. Yes, new alternators are expensive.
