The transom is rotted out and I have already taken it out I would like to cut about 5ft off the back and build a new transom but I dont know what other problems I mave have with it?

Re: alterations

Sure it's possible. Cutting it square will be a bit complicated. Will the beam be the same at both points?

Length waterline (LWL) affects hull speed, so she won't be as quick.

Re: alterations

I would think that you would be better off to sell or trade the 14' for a 10'er. A lot of people with 10' would be willing to trade up for a 14' and you might even be able to get a bit of cash out of the deal.

Yes but the boat I have is already gutted and the transom is out. Also it didnt cost me anything so if I mess it up no loss. I have to replace the transom anyway I would like to move in in to shorten the boat but is it still going to be water worthy or will it be out of balance? I would like to use the motor I have but it may be too big its a 40hp older johnson. I am not looking for a lot of speed, just to see if I can do it and make it work.

Honestly a 40HP is wy to much for a 10' jon type boat. You would be better off fixing it up as is and trying to find a nice 10'er to trade the 14 for if its longer than what you want .
