Hi, is there a difference in a marine altenator and starters vs regular ones from auto parts stores? I have a 4.3 I want replace these two on.

Yes. They are ignition protected. Do not use auto anything on your I/O for:
Alt
Starter
Distributor
Carb
Fuel pump
I like ARCO for alternators & starters

The reason behind this is automotive Starters/Alternators do not have the required plates to contain the sparks that are made inside these devices from exacaping which could and most likely will result in an onboard fire since the engine is confined to a small space that doesn't really vent the gas fumes like automobiles do

It is a metal screen that prevents flames from ignited vapors from escaping from the electrical component; so for example if an explosive mixture of fuel vapors gets inside the starter, alt or distributor and is ignited the screen stops the flame from traveling outward & igniting the rest of the explosive mixture in the bilge.
Even fuses used in the engine space are different you’re supposed to use ATC (closed) fuses vs ATO open same concept.
