Alpha outdrive crack in casing...Problem??

This drive has been in my garage for a few years as a spare.I moved it today and saw the crack. This drive was serviced and painted ,ready to go so when I ran my finger over the crack and paint came off it leads me to believe it was leaking something.If I remember correctly this area is a cavity along side the shifter and not the lube area..What do you guys think?? Charlie

The only way to stop the blistering is to seperate the housings then clean out the cavity so that it can be welded over.
