Alpha one remove

I have a 1987 boat with a alpha one o/d.I'am trying to remove the lower unit but I can not shift it into forward. The cable moves very little and I hear it clicking how can I get it into gear?

If you mean just the lower unit, any gear will work. If you mean the complete drive, it must be in full fwd. If your replacing the shift cable at this time, just cut the old cable near the shift boot and move the shift shoe straignt.

The outdrive has two halves, the driveshaft housing (upper) and gear housing (lower). You can separate the two halves and once the lower is off you can remove the upper in any gear.

I'am not replacing the shift cable if I don't have too.how can I move the shifter shoe straight.the cable seems fine?

As stated..If you are removing just the lower half of the OD, it does not have to be in fwd.
If you are removing the entire OD, then yes it does.

Ok,I got my lower unit of and my upper unit will not come off.Me and a friend first tried to get the o/d off in rev.I believe we force it alittle to much and maybe bent the shifter shoe what can I do

Ayuh,... Straighten it, or replace it...

I can not get the upper unit off. I comes back about an 1/4 inch.
