So finally got some time to try reinstalling my alpha one lower. I got it all lock in foward gear and slide the lower up into the upper. it slid together. I bolted it up and now its stuck in forward. I pulled back on the shifter and its kind of hard and tried putting it in nuteral. while the shifter is in the " nuteral postion" I tried to rotate the prop but it wont turn still locked in foward gear. Im confused but dont really wanna take it to a marina they'll have it for a few weeks. Any more Ideas?

Doesn't sound like it was put back together correctly. Need to pull it back off, put shifter in full FWD, make sure not to turn the prop of prop shaft when putting it back on, and the shift lever lines up with the drive. I woulf up the drive in forward and hold the prop aginist the gears to keep it from turning while I slid it in.

I'll try it again. The little metal shifeter piece that is in the upper is that supposed to have a lot of slop and play and be free spinning. Cause mine is. I can push up on it and it seems like it kinda seats in to a postion. What sucks is it worked just fine prior to changing the impller aaaahhh!! Will try again.

Sounds like somehow the roller on the underside of the upper shift shaft lever has slipped out from between the two arms on the shift slide at the end of the shift cable. Don't really see how that can happen without taking the upper off. Don't be offended, but are you sure the gearhousing is stuck in forward? When you turn the prop COUNTERCLOCKWISE does it lock? If it does then you are in forward. If it locks when you turn the prop clockwise then you are in reverse.

Drop your lower and check to make sure the SS washer is in place on the lower shift shaft bushing (and below it is a smaller diamerter rubber washer). This piece (SS washer) has been left off so many times it aint funny!. Then make sure the lower shift shaft is full clockwise and propeller is locked CCW (and held with a bungie cord)... Then line up the intermediate shift shaft straight foward and raise the lower.... At least that is the way it is "supposed" to work!

And that IS the way it works, every time... :D :D :D ;)

Just one additional pointer. You might (most probably will) have to rotate the drive-shaft to get the splines to line up. Do that by rotating the propeller CCW, but NEVER CW. It might feel a little tight, that's normal. That way you'll keep it in forward and the drive-shaft will turn to align the splines.... It'll just pop in...

Re: Alpha one Reinstall round 2

Ok guys thanks for all the help. So after putting it in taking out a few times, ugh! The upper shift shaft thats sticking down out of the upper, that the lowere shift spline mates up into was kinda of hanging there and I could spin it freely and move it up and down. So I got to messing with the shift cables. I pushed the cable shift shaft back into the upper and found a spot where it would not turn freely by hand. Then had my help move the shifter back and foreth to see if it move left or right. It was barley moving. So I was looking at the shift plate and found the nut was loose a bit on the top cabel and when the shift lever was moved it wasn't hardly moving. So we got the shift shaft back in positon and I adjusted the cable tried it again and now the shift shaft moves left and right. So got everything ready on the lower again all locked in foward shifter in faoward and slide it right up in there, bolted it back in. And what do you know it shifts out of foward in to netural and reverse. hahaha! all that for the stupid nut being loose on the shift plate and letting the shift shaft have play in it. Thanks for all the help guys. Im really good at taking the lower in and out now, LOL!
