Boat was built in 1987 and has thru-hull exhausts (no Y-pipe)
Engine is a Mercruiser 260 hp V8 (SN 0B651656)
Drive is an Alpha One Gen 1 (SN 0B612075)

I'm nearing the end of my boat restoration and am ready to hook up the lower shift cable. The cable's sheath is already installed in the drive's bell housing and routed into the bilge, and the engine is already installed. I searched the forums for info on how to route the cable, but I'm only coming up with threads that talk about how to route the cable on boats with a y-pipe. Unfortunately I did not document the routing of the cable before pulling the engine / drive / transom assembly last year when I started the restoration. Is there a specific routing I should use? Appreciate anyone with some constructive input.

Probably depends on where your shift cable terminates on the engine. You want a nice smooth curvature up to the shift plate. My shift plate is on the back of the motor, lower cable routes through the transom, over to the starboard side, up and back to port direction under the exhaust elbow to the shift plate. Yours may be different, hope that is helpful.
