I guess this would be time to play Sesame Street. More specifically, the (Which one doesn't belong?) portion of the show. I made the mistake of letting someone work on the drives that indicated they did this for a living..... ( I was new in the area at the time) Go figure.

Can anyone tell me Which one doesn't belong? Also, you may note there is only 1 O-ring that was on only one drive shaft. What kind of damage would have or may have caused?

What should be my next move?

Help please..............

The O ring has been eliminated on later drives, only used if there is a groove for it in the driveshaft, dosent cause any damage.

Both drives have the groove for the O-rings. The one on the port side was not there when I removed the drive. Also, the gasket on the STB drive is different than the port. I thought it may have torn, but upon close inspection that is the way the gasket was made.

Do you happen to know which is the correct gasket set up? Was the wrong one used?

A pic paints a thousand words.... Clearly, the STB side was done incorrectly. Thanks, Doc.

I think my next move will be to put in new pumps (complete with base and seal) . Is the O-ring on the drive shaft the only thing I need to replace when I do this, or is there another seal in the upper than needs to be done?

What's the Quad seal I have read about? Is that the one located below the base of the water pump?

Thanks, again guys...

ok.... I take it that's the where the shift linkage connects? I can see from the pic there're are internal threads. Does the seal spin out or pull out like the one below the pump?

That hole is for the shift shaft seal ,the small hole just under the stud is the quad seal.

Holy crap.... The S@#t you learn on this site. Never would have know it was there! This looks like it's in a spot that is vulnerable each time you separate the drive. Should it be changed every time you drop the lower unit, or is it a once a year deal when replacing the impellor?

Re: Alpha 1 Overheat & Other Issues

Personally, I change them whenever I split a unit
A new one comes in the water pump kit
