I have a 94 290 Sundancer with twin 4.3's. I have replaced both engines and went through the drives. I had no problem adjusting the starb. dive shift cable. Is the adjustment for the port drive, LH, the same but just done in reverse instead of forward? I did that way but when I put it in forward it is still in netural. If I reach in the drive and push the shoe a tiny bit then it will lock the prop like it should.
Not many people in Richmond VA have seen the LH drives so no local help here. Thanks in advance for the help!!

Don, I was hoping you would reply to this. I had those but just re did it. Now I have locked prop in rev ccw like supposed to but in netural you can hear the drive clicking going cw and in forward the drive spins free cw instead of locking. This has been kicking my ... for a week and is the only thing keeping the boat from getting in the water for the first time in 2 years. I'm geussing something it just barely out of adjustment somewhere but it seems like every time I make a minor change I get no where or the exterme opposite. What do you think?

Re: Alpha 1 Gen 2 LH Drive Shift Cable Adjustment

I just went out and re did the adjustments. I noticed that there is almost 5/16' play in the shift cable and that is the little bit that if I manually move the shoe on the out drive then I will get forward. could that cause my problem. The other engine and drive has no play in the shift cable. I'm thinking if I trim the end of the shift cable where it goes into the plastic part that attatches to the shift assy it will fix my problem. What are your thoughts??

Probably just a worn out cable. The inner cable wears a groove in the outer cable and gives you a lot of extra movement (Play).
